I have worked for 17 years using the “old-school,” seminar-driven model and 11 years using the “new-school,” online lead generation and webinar model.
It’s nice to be able to say, I have succeeded at both. Below in this article there’s a list of achievements if you care to know.
I love the Internet. I started online in 1999 and I was able to have more than 500,000 people in my organizations through online marketing, while placing value on relationships and personal interaction with my team.
85% of my training evolves around three areas: personal branding, hi-volume Internet lead generation techniques and developing people skills. These are the simple disciplines that caused great success for me and I’m sticking with them.
I started with absolutely nothing. This is my story how I went from a nobody, to a decently-paid-networker, to an obscenely-paid “A Player”
You are reading from someone who came up the hard way. I grew up in an Italian, humble, low-income family. For affordability reasons, I spent most of my childhood in Catholic schools away from home.
At age 14 I started working in my mother’s commercial janitorial business. This is how I paid my way through high school and eventually college. My childhood dream was to become a ship Captain, so I got a Masters Degree in Naval Engineering and served as a Naval Officer in the Military and later in the cruise ship industry.
After years at sea, I decided to settle down from world travel and start a family.
My father-in-law gave me a job as a truck driver in his chemical company and now I was a proud husband and father with a mortgage, a car payment, a stack of monthly bills and a $9,000/yr. job that wasn’t enough!
Bill hoped that one day I would learn enough to take over and run the family business so he could retire and travel, but his plans were eventually ruined.
One day, while I was pumping gas in my truck, I was prospected and invited to attend a network marketing rally at Pier 66 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Yes, some one practiced the dreaded 3-foot rule on me and it worked! I went to the meeting.
That evening my life changed. I was impressed and inspired. I was excited to have found a new hope and direction. I became a believer that my best choice was to build my own leveraged business as an entrepreneur.
I either continued working a lifetime hour-by-hour, earning dollar-by-dollar, in a job I didn’t like and didn’t pay well or work a model capable of making money in my sleep and turning my life into an experience of wealth and freedom. For me, it was an easy choice.
People may find safety in a job with a “guaranteed” paycheck, but the way I see it, a job is a guarantee that you won’t make it in life.
I saw the entire vision of this business. I saw the unlimited potential for helping people grow, follow their passions and purpose in life, and create unimaginable wealth by doing what they love the most.
Turning frustration into compensation
I had everything against me. My only weapon was determination. I had no marketing background and no sales skills. I was as green as grass after it rains.
I had an engineering mentality where 2+2=4, in a people’s business where logic is as rare as a sunny day in London.
I had a very tiring job in the day time and to top it all off, I had no money. I had to take a part-time job at night to raise the $2,000 I needed to join the company.
The Internet didn’t exist, so I did all the “uncomfortable” guerrilla marketing stuff we laugh about today. The stupid 3-foot rule, talking to people with bad breath in coffee shops and stopping people at the mall with corny excuses so I could start a prospecting conversation.
It was a frustrating waste of time and I was going nowhere. I spent a year spinning wheels in the cold prospecting, “push and shove, talk to anyone that’s 18 and breathing” model.
I thought of quitting and keeping my day job 1,000 times. I use to confide with my mentor Jim Rohn who was running our mastermind sessions, that I didn’t know if I could endure in the business. I was chasing, talking and doing the deal! When was it going to happen? I was running out of patience, voice and shoe soles. But, he kept on telling me: “Hang in there, because once you quit it becomes a habit!”
I did. And to this day, I owe him my career. I thank him for staying on top of me with a heavy dose or reality to impress upon me that the alternative to “hanging in there,” was the tragedy of living a life of limitations, designed by others and serving someone else’s dream.
Finally, three months later, I was able to team up with an aggressive, clever marketer in my upline that taught me how to advertise, how to brand myself, set up “Dan Kennedy style” marketing funnels and prospect people under a proven strategy.
That was my breakthrough. This is why I always say: “A mentor that can take you to next level is the greatest commodity you can find.” It’s the difference between feast of famine.
After a few months in my new game, I had finally narrowed down a process that was working and following that proven plan, I was fortunate to go full time in four months and then move forward to earn several million dollars in just a few years.
I was then able to repeat that success several times as the #1 earner in four direct marketing companies and a few successful Internet ventures in the last 27 years.
Here’s what happened:
1980′s — Was a multiple six-figure earner in a legendary California based company, which today is a global publicly traded and grossing $1.6 billion yearly.
1992 — Became the #1 earner in a Florida based direct marketing company. Along with my leadership team, acquired 90,000 reps/customers and generated around $400 million in sales in 8 years.
1999 — Became the #1 earner and corporate trainer with a Tampa-based Telecommunication Company, which enrolled 350,000 customers and became a publicly traded, $500 million dollar company in less than 3 years. This company was eventually sold and switched to non-referral marketing model.
2002 — Developed my first Internet system that, in only 6 months, led me to become the fastest growing affiliate (acquiring nearly 30,000 customers) in a $100 million media company. Today, this business still produces nearly $1,000,000 in yearly sales.
2003 — Developed my second Internet marketing system and became the #1 enroller and $20,000 a week earner in a Florida based e-commerce company, which today has six million members.
2006 — In a little over a year, through Internet marketing I became the cumulative #1 earner, and reached a peak income of $25,000 a week with a health energy beverage manufactured in Dallas, TX. This organization developed into 190,000 people and the program is currently producing millions in yearly sales.
2010 – I’m currently involved in direct Internet sales and network marketing earning as much as $800 a day (with peaks at $2,800 a day) while still enjoying the residuals from my past ventures.
I also consult companies and individuals in many aspects of business management, advertising, marketing, Internet and lead generation. I own a web development company that produces custom marketing systems.
I consider myself fortunate and blessed for the ability to fully live the American Dream. Today more than ever, I’m 100% dedicated in helping and teaching other entrepreneurs how to succeed in business and living their dreams as well.
